History
2005 The Fraser Dragons dragon boat team was founded in 2005 by a group of individuals who wanted to stay active and enjoy a water sport. They chose dragon boating not only for the fitness and fun it offered but also because of its meaningful connection to breast cancer survivorship. While a few members already knew each other, most were strangers, recruited through friends, relatives, and colleagues. Over the following years, team membership shifted until, by 2007, a close-knit and dedicated group had formed—committed both to the team itself and to the sport of dragon boating.
Today
What it truly means to be a Fraser Dragon? Together, we established the following principles:
1. We are a recreational team.
2. We paddle for fun, fitness, pride in sportsmanship, and camaraderie.
3. We support one another in developing skill, knowledge, and experience in dragon boating.
4. We value healthy competition, but never at the expense of enjoyment or team spirit.
5. We strive to improve our abilities—individually and collectively—enhancing both our performance and our overall health.
6. We serve as role models and mentors to new teammates.
7. We act as ambassadors for dragon boating within our team and in the broader paddling community. As Fraser Dragons, we are committed to upholding these values and promoting the spirit of dragon boating in everything we do. These principles strengthen each of us as individuals while uniting us as a team.
